Children from Maracay, Venezuela

Venezuela has one of the world's largest-known oil deposits, but the nation's extreme wealth reaches only a few. Nearly half the population lives in poverty in shanty towns and slums, the most infamous of which sprawl over the hillsides around the capital, Caracas. Countless children are subjected to a childhood of squalor and deprivation.

You can help give a home, a mother and a happy family childhood to a child facing a life against this backdrop:

Our work in Venezuela

We have been working in Venezuela since 1979. There are currently three SOS Children's Villages in the country.

La Cañada, Maracaibo

Venezuela map

In 1979, SOS Children's Villages built their first Village in the north of the Venezuela, where the majority of the population live. We called it La Cañada after the municipality in which it is located. We also built a nursery, school and social centre.

Ciudad Ojeda

We opened SOS Children's Village Ciudad Ojeda in 1983 in the centre of Ojeda, a small town on the eastern shores of Lake Maracaibo. There is a nursery in the village and we later built a social centre.

Our third location in Venezuela was established at Maracay in the year 2000. Maracay is an industrial town near Valencia.
